How we rank dating apps

We assess every dating app against the same four criteria. The rating is our editorial opinion, based on the information each service publishes itself: its website, price list, terms and conditions and app store listing.

1. What is free?

What you can do without paying: sign up, build a profile, see suggestions, browse, send and read messages.

2. What does it really cost?

We read the terms: subscription length, automatic renewal and how to cancel.

3. How trustworthy is it?

Is it clear who runs the service, is there a privacy policy, and can you report suspicious profiles?

4. Who is it for?

Target audience, age range and goal: a serious relationship, new connections or something in between.
