Considering eharmony and want a clear eharmony review before you sign up? Here are the facts from eharmony’s UK terms and conditions, its UK website and its App Store listing: who runs the service, what the free Basic membership includes, how Premium works and what you need to know about cancelling.
What is eharmony and who runs it?
eharmony is a dating site and app for adults who want a serious, long-term relationship. On its UK website it describes itself as a service designed to help you find love based on compatibility. You start with a compatibility quiz, and eharmony then suggests matches with a compatibility score. You must be 18 or over to use it.
According to the UK terms and conditions (version of 6 January 2026), the service is provided by eHarmony UK Ltd., based in Altrincham, Cheshire, and the terms are governed by English law. That makes eharmony one of the few big dating services with a UK company as your contracting party.
The App Store listing adds that every profile must be at least 50% complete, which is meant to filter for people who are serious. eharmony does not publish UK member numbers on the pages we checked, so we do not give any.
What is free on eharmony?
Registering and using the Basic membership is free, and according to eharmony’s UK cost page there is no time limit on Basic. Under the terms, a Basic member can:
- take the compatibility quiz
- receive free partner recommendations in their profile and by email
- see each match’s compatibility score, first name and town
- open the detailed profile of a match
- send an unlimited number of predefined communications, such as Likes and icebreakers
The limits are clear. As a Basic member you will generally only see blurred match photos, and you have “only a limited ability to send and read personalised messages”. In practice, the free version shows you what kind of matches you get before you decide whether to pay.
How eharmony matching works
eharmony is different from swipe apps because the service suggests people to you. The compatibility quiz feeds a personality profile, which is compared with other members’ profiles to produce your suggestions. That is why it is worth answering the quiz honestly and completing your profile with guided prompts.
According to the App Store listing, the process has four steps: take the quiz, fill in your profile, browse singles ranked by their matching score, and send a Like and a first message. A match happens when the Like is returned. Premium members also get access to their detailed personality evaluation, which Basic members can buy separately.
Prices and renewal: does eharmony renew automatically?
eharmony does not publish its Premium prices on its UK website. According to the cost page, they are shown on the subscription page once you are logged in and click to upgrade. Premium gives unblurred photos, messaging with your matches, continuously updated suggestions and extras such as seeing who viewed you. You can pay by debit or credit card or PayPal.
The UK App Store lists items called “Premium light” and “Premium PLUS” at prices ranging from £109.99 to £349.99, but without saying how long each one lasts. We therefore do not attach any of these prices to a specific duration. The cost page also mentions different lengths in different places, so check the exact term on the purchase screen.
The most important point is renewal. According to the UK terms, a Premium membership bought on the website is automatically extended after the initial term, for the term and price you agreed when you subscribed. To stop it, you must tell eharmony you want to end the subscription before the end of the current term. Termination only takes effect at the end of the agreed minimum term, with no refund for the remaining period.
Who is eharmony for?
- singles who want a long-term relationship and prefer suggested matches to endless swiping
- people who want matching based on personality and values, not just photos
- anyone willing to spend time on the quiz and the profile
- those ready to pay for a longer subscription and note the cancellation date

Tips to get the most out of eharmony
- Answer the quiz honestly. Your suggestions are based on it, so tactical answers will only give you worse matches.
- Complete your profile. A full profile is required anyway, and good written answers matter even more when photos are blurred for Basic members. See our dating app bio examples.
- Use the free Likes and icebreakers. They show interest without paying and tell you who responds.
- Read the purchase screen carefully. Note the term, the total price and the renewal price before you click Buy.
- Put the end date in your calendar. If you do not want to renew, cancel well before the current term ends.
How to cancel eharmony
Premium bought on the website can be ended in your profile under Data & Settings → Manage profile → Amend subscription, or by writing to eharmony. According to the terms, a written request must include your registered email or profile ID and your service password, which you find under Manage Profile. If you bought through the App Store or Google Play, you must cancel there. Deleting your profile or the app does not cancel a subscription.
Under the UK terms, you have 14 days to cancel a purchase from the date of the email confirmation, by post, email or live chat. If you have already started using Premium, eharmony may keep a reasonable amount for the service you have received. This is general information, not legal advice. If you cannot resolve a problem, Citizens Advice can help with consumer rights.
